Apple Tarte Tatin
Serves 6-8 — prep time: 30 min — cook time: 60 min
1 pre-made pie crust
1/4 cup butter softened
3/4 cup sugar
4 medium apples tart (SweeTango is recommended)
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Peel, core and quarter apples. Hold in enough water to cover apples, with one tablespoon of lemon juice or cider vinegar added.
Spread butter on oven safe pan and sprinkle sugar over butter. Arrange apples round side down in pan filling gaps as best you can. This can be done by slicing a few of the quarters smaller to fit gaps.
Cover apples with pie crust and press crust down into the gaps.
Bake for about 1 hour until crust is golden brown. Cool 5 to 10 minutes and release sides with butter knife. Put serving platter over pan and invert. Remove pan. If any ingredients stick to pan, you can scoop them out and add them to the tarte.
This is a simple recipe that takes a little practice and has lots of room for experimentation. Add your favorite flavors and, above all, have fun.
